Neurotech Notables #47: Jan 16- Jan 31, 2026
Winter Warmers & Hearty Handshakes
Hello Readers,
February is here. As it’s officially Valentine’s day* month, I’d like to offer wishes of safety, health, and love to all of you impacted by the cold, ICE, and all other challenges of the human variety.
The rush of neurotech updates that opened January slowed to a steady flow of notable new analysis and reports, with the usual pileup of interesting research papers over the second half of the month.
It was a slow commercial stretch, with $40m in new funding to Cranius and Omniscient along with smaller grant awards, one FDA clearance, and a handful of new commercial appointments. However, new efforts or expansions from Rice University, U of Cambridge, and Davos Alzheimer Collaborative speak to broader system efforts underway.
New partnerships this week include Atlas’s new wearable EEG partnership with the NBA and Acacia Clinic’s new non-invasive VNS study with electroCore. The latter, taken with Northwell Health’s psychedelic clinic news, suggests that VNS may become part of the frontier psychiatry market too.
A new FDA report summarizes a busy year of device regulation, while raising questions of staffing and capacity, especially after David McMullen’s departure. I’m seeking to partner with regulatory experts to step up Neurotech Futures content and coverage of FDA & CMS activity this year - please hit reply with ideas, suggestions, questions for collaboration.
Check out new studies from Vivani, Noctrix, Attune, along with industry papers spanning economics of neuromod, brain capital, brain emulation, brain energy, and more. And scroll down to Research for fresh papers and preprints spanning modulation, imaging, implants, and more.

Avid enjoyer of this substack! Responding to the call out in the intro, I wanted to share that the KCL student-led neurotech society that I am Treasurer for a summit in early March. It is an effort bringing together the other ratified neurotech societies in UK universities, with the aim of highlighting the involvement and contribution of young minds to this emerging field. We are currently recruiting speakers and collaborators in London and are very excited to be organising this!
