Neurotech Notables #56: June 1-15, 2026
Valuation Nation + Oakland Happy Hour 6/25đ¸
Hi Readers,
In the last two weeks: SpaceX had the biggest-ever IPO, raising $85.7B for a $2T valuation, OpenAI ($852B post-money) and Anthropic ( $965B post-money) both announced their IPO plans, and the latter was served an export control on their latest model.
From outer space to inner space, Neurotech is part of this too. Buckle up.
Bezos led a $500m investment in Flourish, a new neuroAI company led by CTRL-Labs founder Thomas Reardon. Per Wired, Flourish will build new algorithms and chips for faster learning at a reported $2.5b valuation, which puts it alongside reported valuations of Science Corpâs $1.5b, Synchronâs ~$1b, and Merge Labsâ $850m. But below Neuralinkâs $9b.
Intel Inside? Intel announced a new strategic partnership with Edward Changâs stealth BCI Startup, Echo Neurotechnologies to âdevelop algorithms that are not just brain-inspired, but actually trained on brain activity itself. This will allow us to build highly energy-efficient computing architectures and platforms that are faster, lighter and closer to how humans actually think.â
Big Chip: A new report from Korea revealed Samsungâs R&D contract to buildâs Neuralink fourth-gen chips. They shipped first test chips last month, with full production scheduled for 2027. The deal follows Neuralinkâs president DJ Seoâs visit to South Korea last year, and runs in parallel to SpaceXâs $55m bet on Terafab, a new AI chip plant project in Texas.
Meanwhile, outside the BCI-AI realm: Medtronic posted a $2.75b quarter in Neuro (at a $123b company valuation), Nyxoah priced a $95m IPO, GT Medical raised $100m for implantable brain cancer treatment, along with CereVascâs $95m for Hydrocephalus.
Wave secured a big FDA clearance for their PTSD TMS protocol. Setpoint launched a post-market registry. Paradromics just announced their FIH. Neuronoff enrolled their first patient in a DOD trial. Shiratronics completed enrollment for their Migraine Pivotal study and bagged new CPT codes. EpiWatchâs phase III trial. NRx and Emobot publish new data. New leaders at Neuraworx and WyssGeneva, and RobeautĂŠ partners with Googleâs robotics accelerator.
Brainy Day: Several new programs from ARPA-H, NSF, Allen Institute, as well as new brain health reports and partnerships in primary care, AI, and the global Brain Economy movement. New fund announcements.
Plus: Cognitive testing news from Linus & Altoida. Pelara and Openwater bring focused ultrasound to pets. Cognisionâs Ketamine EEG study. Many smart pieces and neat studies in TMS, tDCS, and more. New neuropixel opto probes. A shelfâs worth of new DBS studies.
And a cool new paper from Sergey Staviksyâs lab about a BCI user in Oakland. Speaking of Oakland: Join me for a drink next Thursday!
More (much more) coming to your inbox this summer, stay tuned.

This marks the first time Samsung has secured a contract from Neuralink. The project reportedly carries the internal codename âO1â and is expected to be manufactured using Samsung Foundryâs 4nm process technology. The chip is designed for use in Neuralinkâs brain-computer interface systems. Samsung reportedly began work on the new chip late last year, and production of the first test chips started last month. The chip is scheduled to be shipped in the first half of 2027. If testing goes as planned, mass production could begin in the second half of next year.â

Previously, it held annual workshops on new topics in research ethics such as psychedelics and AI, which typically drew more than 1,000 participants, according to former employees. In 2025, the office was hoping to tackle neuroethics â questions of sentience in brain organoids and considerations for recipients of brain-computer interfaces. That event never happened.â
