Neurotech Notables #58: July 1-15, 2026
Biocompute Tetris. 1st Commercial BCI Implant. NYBCI Discount. All the EEG news.
Hi Readers,
Looking for some fresh neurotech headlines to pass the time until the World Cup Finals? Here’s what happened so far in July:
Gestala raised $62m in an “Angel+” round for their ultrasound BCI. This is the issue’s biggest funding news, but the second biggest Chinese BCI news, behind Neuracle’s completion of the world’s first commercial BCI implant.
Hemispheric emerged from stealth with $52m for an EEG-based assessment platform that will start with PTSD and also maybe invent a new brain scan. Speaking of EEG: I wrote about Universal Brain’s 510k clearance and frontier psychiatry ambitions in Forbes. Also, Cumulus and InteraXon (Muse) partner on CNS trials.
I also wrote about a new game of Tetris that you can play against a neuron-wired biocomputer. Much more on this landscape coming soon. If you’re a company, investor, researcher, or expert in biocomputing, please hit reply and let me know what you’re working on.
Other commercial news: BIOTRONIK acquired Soin’s SCS IP. ClearOne merges with Cortigent in the latest entry in Vivani’s vision BCI garage sale. Partnership news from Amprion & Modality.AI, VizAI & Cortechs.ai. Theranica posts coverage milestone, and Paradromics and Neurosoft among those announcing new high profile leadership.
Blood tests for Alzheimer’s got the buzz this week, but new clinical data from Cognito and Linus Health are what will bring dementia care closer to reality (IMHO.) Plus new studies from Spark Biomedical & Mobia.
Commentary on psychiatric SDOH, Ohio’s Brain Capital movement, terminal lucidity. Fresh research in sonogenetics, DBS, temporal interference, early detection, bioabsorable interfaces, an Aliens-themed neurotech Halloween costume idea, and more.
Lastly: It’s midsummer - but it’s always conference season. Check out BrainMind’s Asilomar report to revisit the spring. And mark your calendar for the fall! If you’re plannning on going to the third annual NYBCI Symposium (here’s last year’s writeup), grab your 10% discount code in the Community Board below. And stay tuned for another mixer in August🍸
